Beach handball - a unique experience
Sometimes you need a break from the standard assignments like football, basketball, (indoor) handball... and you feel a need to try something different. That is what brings me to EHF IX Beach Handball Championships 2015. The location of the championships (men's and women's) was Spain (Lloret De Mar) and I find it interesting to combine the vacation and covering the championships.
I already had experience of shooting indoor handball, but beach handball is a whole another story. After obtaining an accreditation I researched a bit on the internet and I found out that the beach handball rules are much different in so many ways than indoor handball. As the official beach handball rules says "Creative or spectacular goals are awarded with two points, a goal scored by a 6-meter throw is awarded with two points, two points are awarded when a goal is scored by the goalkeeper" and I was like "THIS IS GONNA BE FUN!". I was watching videos and I saw that the players are usually scoring goals with 360 pirouette, kempas, goalkeeper scoring all the way from his field and that was a great starting point for amazing actions photos.
I was amazed from the photos taken from that championship. Even that it was my only beach handball championship covered, and it was in 2015, I think it's worth to be re-shared here. Except being on the direct sun couple of hours a day and wearing a photo bib while outside is approx 40℃, taking photos of beach handball can be really fun. During the matches music must be played loud and having a sea somewhere nearby can be a mitigating factor.
I hope I'll cover beach handball soon again.
